SEATTLE (AP) - Residents of the Pacific Northwest struggled to stay warm Saturday after the worst windstorm in more than a decade knocked out power to more than 1.5 million homes and businesses and killed at least six people.

More than 600,000 customers in Washington and Oregon still had no power Saturday, and utilities said some might have to wait into next week for their lights to go back on.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire declared a state of emergency, and with temperatures expected to drop over the weekend, officials warned people not to use outdoor grills, propane heaters or other carbon monoxide-producing equipment indoors.

Firefighters in Kent found 33 people from four families suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning Friday night, fire Capt. Kyle Ohashi said. They had taken their barbecues inside to cook or heat their apartments as temperatures dipped into the 30s.

I realize PM's and the blogs are a slow form of communication but right now that's all we have. It doesn't look like I'm ever going to be able to access the forums where they are...even tried to go through an on-line proxy...and still got locked out.

So...if you have any questions...or want to discuss possibilities...it looks like our options right now are somewhat limited.

I read the draft again - don't know if you've posted it or not. Anyway, you should really DL some kind of IM. I know with dial up it will take you a while but it would be much easier if we could discuss these things with you real-time and all in person, sort of. It would in the end make things like discussing your objectives much faster and more clear. :)

What I meant by that was that we plan to offer free sub-domains for those interested in having one to sell their products/services ( eg. mel's photos, foxy's tech, Noia says he has free stuff, etc...)...so...in order to complete the website we need to be able to include them...so...at the very least, just to make the sub-domains we need a name to call it and what service might be offered so we can include a write-up on the main page.

Preferably we'd like this info so we don't have to go back and update everything every time someone decides they want to do it...so...we're hoping people will come forward while we're creating them so we can include the links and write-ups now...instead of later. ;)

As usual...I'm working on something :D ...

right now it's getting the templates ready for the website...I'll need some help uploading them adding the links and linking them all together...but right now it's just getting them the way I'd like them to be presented...

actually...I'm getting them done faster than I expected...but there's a lot of work to do...

of course I can't do the service pages...that's up to you guys to get er' done...so we don't have to go back and update the links too often...so...
like I tried to express on the blogs and the forum...if anyone has a product or service to sell/giveaway/promote then you need to get working on your template to be uploaded into a sub-domain...
I have templates if you need one...just tell me how to send it...

I'd like to have the website up and running by the end of March at the latest...that's means everything set up, working, and published...so I can start promotion...

the forums I'm not worried about at the moment...there's no sense worrying about something I can't do anything about...it's not in my hands...

the website is more important than the forums anyways...in the sense that every day it sits unused is a day we wasted our money on it...the forums cost nothing...the website is paid for and is sitting collecting dust...
time to shake the dust off and get er' done...;)

Instead of offering little ads on a page for member services I think I'm going to opt for members considering selling/offering their services or products their own sub-domain with their own template...like the individual sites within TAZ..
I do already have several templates from tech templates like the temporary template that we are using now to gallery or journal-like templates if someone can't find one themselves...
I think this way will be better all around for several reasons...

1. it follows the concept on how I'd like each sub-domain to be a unique site in itself like the blogs

2. it gives more choices to those who wish to have a service page

3. it doesn't prevent us from setting it up...you see one of the major hold-ups to getting the TAZ going was waiting for the members to provide the information to include on the main page...this way the TAZ can move ahead without that as the service pages and links can be added as we go...

The TAZ Zone proper...note that when these pages are finished and set up they will be very low maintenance...requiring only periodic updating

I have considered that we might have to move the site if the whiz isn't able to keep up...and it appears with the upgrades to his server he is trying...
it's an inconvenience now but...better now than later when we have 500 posts a day instead of 100...
he knows, as I've already told him, that I will move the site if necessary, but for now I want to give the kid a chance...after all, it is a free site and up to now he has been very co-operative to my requests...
we are all new to this...us and him apparently, and we are the only active forum he has...I'd feel a little guilty just up and leaving...so...for now we'll just see how it goes.

Well...the forums have had there first dispute over the direction it's going...no problem...that was to be expected eventually...
sometimes it takes time for people to wrap themselves around something or a concept they're not used to...

birthing stages...every new concept goes through them...until people get their feet wet and settle in to the new ideas...

I just thought it'd take longer than 16 days before someone decided there was something wrong...only thing is there isn't anything wrong... it only ' seems ' wrong because it not what they're used to.

Live or die...I plan to stick behind this...and see what unfolds...either the concept will get grasped or the forums will turn into a carbon-copy of every other forum out there.

I want to let everyone know how much I enjoy the new Forum and look forward to getting to know the current members better.

Just thought I'd swing by and lounge a bit. This time of year is slow for me. Most people on vacation so no one is around to muck things up.

Been over to ao but haven't seen a lot of new stuff in a while. I did get a copy of the latest exploit before the site went down. Not too shabby. Whoever wrote that could make a killing doing legitimate work.

Spent a few hours checking out Mel's photos yesterday. For what it's worth - I think their REALLY good.

I hope they don't stop either...the forum is great, the website will be up soon...but the blogs are our sanctury...you can't get in here unless you've been invited...

even the hidden mod areas in the forum are not THAT exclusive...

my intention is to keep the remaining blogs...for many reasons...they're nice out of the way private spots for invitees...I've spent a lot of time on them, and I hope it's not wasted...they have a good audience for new blogs...and the traffic can be re-routed via links to the forums and website and back again so everything benefits.

Like you said...let's keep them alive! and it doesn't take much...one post a month from each member would keep them moving along nicely....unlike a forum that needs an influx of posts to keep it alive.

Forum: I've set the access to additional veiws to not allow...until I can get a chance to work on a couple of other templates you'll have to put up with this one :P...I do plan to offer alternatives to the set default template in the future though.

Well it was a good one I guess ...short and sweet.

Went for diner and presents at my "in-laws" (I'm not really married but anyway).
Had to go back to work today ...that was less fun ... not much to do ...the day went by slowly...boring.

Yeh well I am late..
It is now Boxing Day, so I trust Christmas Day was a good one for you..

IT was a fantastic here, Had Mrs Undie's Family and a few friends over for lunch. Closed off the enternainment area of the house, cranked up the Aircon, and enjoyed the spread..

You know your in redneck country when the best entertainment was watching a pair of the queens finest spear tackle a DVO breaker. Yes we braved the 40 plus temps to go out and cheer for our respective teams.. pity was the kid (19yo) didnt put up much of a fight so the entertainment was over in a couple of minutes..

Did I mention it was a bit warm yesterday? not to the record Christmas tems of 2001, where the mercury reached 44.5. But it was a Hell warm day. I had to shutdown the PC's in my Office to be sure we didnt trip the circuit breaker with the aircons in the Entertainment area.. Yeah.. these 40 something houses were wired in the days when you may have a TV or a radio, an electric range, and perhaps a fan in one of the rooms. oh yeh and 2 less rooms..

We survived.. and now Boxing day.. I ready my self for lunch time to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart.. not into yachting.. but it is a good excuse to sit down in the cool with a very cold drink.. and getting a large dose of cold sholder..

just so you know...we will have a website up next year...already been paid for ( TAZ : The Administration Zone )...and we have a forums as well ( tazforums )...

you can sign up anytime...but, you'll have to go through foxy as he has it on invite only status...and it's still in development ( see foxy for complaints or suggestions :D )

we will also have live chat and a few other features as well.

The blogs will stay...and I hope you continue to post in them...the only other ones I'm even considering dropping are Movie Cinema, Space Oddessey, and the new Administration Blog so I'll have more time to devote to the website.

I personally hate getting rid of any...for the amount of time I've put into them it feels like a waste to get rid of them...but...I'm only human and there's only so much time in the day.

I'll keep you all posted...

I just realised I can't email any of you. I had a realy good, "Merry Christmas", email to send you all.

So I will try to describe it here.

There is, "Merry Christmas", in large red letters across the page. These letters, change before your eyes to a bunch of, "santas", showing their arses.

If I can work out how to, I may post it.

PS. In my 20 things about, "me" post....Debs, was mentuned. I take it all back. Anyone who can break their foot on a night out, is not practicle.

My 20 things, but should be alot more :-)

1- I love to learn new things

2- I love animals more then people

3- I hate crowds, although I'm a very extrovert person.

4- I love to cook.

5- I whish I could go and live in a cabin in the woods and live of the land.

6- I love the winter, I love to walk in the snow with my dog (husky).

7- I hate warm weather (more then 25°C is too much)

8- I've been a bouncer when I left the army until I earned enough for a deposit on my house.

9- I'd love to live in Canada or Sweden or any other country with lots of woods.

10- I like reading , I read everything that interests me (thrillers, detectives, philosophy, psychology, etc.)

11- I practice survival and bushcraft techniques.

12- I love discussions about life and the meaning of.

13- I've waited 4 years for the girl I love and we are still together.

14- I would like to travel more.(I would like to visit: USA, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand)

15- I should not have left the army.

16- I should loose more weight.

17- I love TV-series like "Criminal Minds", "Numb3rs", "NCIS", "Wanted"...

18- I don't have any favourit kind of music, I like a lot, from Bruce Springsteen to Tupac Shakur.

19- I don't drink or smoke.

20- I could drop and leave everything I own if it meant I could stop working and live in that cabin in the woods.

I hope this is ok... I could go on and on.

I love Polynomials and complex numbers - I can't add 4+7 in my head.

I love my wife and kids - still having problems with Barney DVD's.

I can fly fixed and rotary winged aircraft - The FAA took my license 7 years ago and laugh at me every time I re apply.

I love reading these things. Jinxy...you posted some really, well....real things. I think it's interesting finding out things you might not ever know unless you knew that person a long time. Also gives us a chance to see what, if anything, we have in common with each other...anything from the typical likes and dislikes, to the very similar or vastly different life situations.

1. I love the night; it always seems to hold an element of danger and excitement.

2. I love extremes of weather, very hot, very cold. Coming from, a temperate climate. Extremes are unusual.

3. Minimalism, I can live quite comfortably, with very little.

4. I drink, therefore,” I am", (mostly drunk).

5. I am, mostly attracted to the wrong women, hence my singleness, that is tempered by my Kids.

6. I can and often do feel lonely in a crowd.

7. I have been to most places in the world that I want to go to, there are a few, I would like to re-visit. (Berlin is one, now the wall has come down)

8. I can not tolerate narrow mindedness, though I’m sure some would consider me narrow minded.

9. I often speak before I engage my brain.

10. I’m a past master at posting BS on the internet.

11. Debs strikes me as the most practical person I have come across.

12. I love to read, mostly thrillers.

13. I have an ex girlfriend, whose daughter was rapped at 11 and pregnant at 12. (Not my kid, she was married to some one else, we had an affair)

14. At 16 my carriers master told me I was too thick to be a Pilot. I have a P2 hang glider pilots licence and I gave up a glider pilot’s course to join the Army.

15. My best mate is a female

16. The only person who truly broke my heart lives a stones throw away and I still have feelings for her.

17. I regret leaving the Army, I have some guilt issues.

18. I watched "Kingdom of Heaven", last night and thought it a great film.

RUUUUUUUUUUM!! :D I'm drunk my friends. Low cut shirt, short skirt, heels and Mike. Off to the club we go. I'm looking forward to it tremendously, and I've only begun drinking....tonight could be fabulous, or it could be really bad. I'm going for fabulous right now. Going to drink, dance, and learn spanish all in one night.

2. I love to drink but I don't...not because I can't :p but because I feel I have a moral obligation to be sober for my kids being the only parent in the house

18. I used to collect albums ( rare Lp's and 45's )...now I tape movies...over 800 from the 1990's-2005...if it made after 1989 and was worth seeing I probably have it...trying to transfer them all over to DVD...figure it's going to take about three or four years
19. I have never been married but have full and sole custody of my children ( which should tell you how bad she must have been :D )..and I'm very proud of that because I went through hell to get them...

1. Morning is my favorite time of day
2. I love cold, gloomy weather (rain / snow)
3. Minimalism in all forms frees my mind (art, music, etc)
4. I fall asleep with the t.v. on (usually to BBC World)
5. Don't watch much t.v. even though it's on a lot (just news and Brit-coms)
6. Propel - grape flavor, is my favorite drink (rarely drink coke, soda, pop, whatever)
7. I can't relax unless my house is clean and organized
8. I still have bad dreams / nightmares :s

Got laundry washing, cookies baking, Christmas music playing, and every piece of clothing I own running thru my head right now....Got a work Christmas party tonight. :P Must find the exact perfect outfit, but I've decided I'm going to make the perfect outfit out of clothes I own instead of going and buying something new. Mike is working this morning, but he'll be back around noon. After our Christmas party, we're going out to a club with some of his Latino friends from work. Most people don't hang out with their "Mexican friends" but we've decided that overall, we like most of them better than anyone else we know, and we have more fun with them, so we're going to the club with them tonight.

Now that I've told you the good stuff, I'm gonna drop a couple lines about the bad stuff. I haven't had a good week at all, wound up in the hospital for a day because of emotional stuff. Bleh. Back on meds. Having to go to the Emergency Room because you're an emotional timebomb is not a fun way to spend a day, but I feel a hell of a lot better now, and I'm actually looking forward to Christmas now and feeling like I can deal with my life again...so that's where I've been. Just getting a handle on things. Sorry I haven't posted much!!
